the problem
develop a 3-dimension design that embodies (visualizes) the essence of the kcai and serves as a "site identifier" for the school. your solution may use image, form or both in combination with typography to communicate energy, activity and the artistic spirit—or other self-determined attributes—but must not use the art institute logo or name.

context considerations
your design must allow for and consider safety, mantenance, the dynamic nature of the out-of-doors environment and be viewable (experienced) under a variety of conditions:
1 from day to night to day;
2 changing seasons and the impact on context/vegetation/landscape;
3 weather—rain, ice/snow/hail, direct sun, clouds, wind or a combination of all;
4 pedestrian/vehicular viewing—speed and distance changes.

the method
after assessing the site and DEFINING the essence (attributes) of the kcai, use principles from previous assignments—in this class and others—to develop and propose three unique and distinctly different concepts. one design will be developed into a comprehensive, schematic proposal. a screen-based (keynote) presentation and large format digital print (poster) are end deliverables due november___.

required proposal content
explain why it looks the way it does...
1 statement of design problem (see the first paragraph)
2 site/context description and assessment—images and commentary
3 inspiration: comparables, materials, attitude/voice—and RELEVANCE
4 process: design being developed—the sketches
5 proposed identity elements: colors, materials, typography—and applications
6 drawings: scale elevations & details that CLEARLY communicate design intent
7 a scale model of the proposed design—photographed
